The series, titled 'Seizure' explores Epilepsy and the ability the illness has to reveal and conceal itself in the physical existence of the individual. The pieces, featuring three generations of my family, incorporates the idea of the ‘electrical’: mirroring electrical impulses that trigger seizures, the light boxes that the work is presented are illuminated by a manipulated impulse, acting as symbolism for how creating this piece is exercising control over my Epilepsy.

Designed to be presented on lightboxes, their regimental presence aims to embody a clinical association, but additionally links to the photographic world. Merging these two themes, I aim to form a deception to the piece by trying to manipulate an audience into thinking these portraits and merely photos. However, as the viewer is drawn in, the deliberate use of the monochromatic acetate print echoes imagery used in a medical setting. Links to X-Rays creates the impression that, like in a broken bone, there is an altered element to the presentation of the sitter.

Created by a digital process, the chemical structure of the individual's medication constructs the portrait. The intricacy involved in the layering of the structures is meant to mimic how neurones are netted within the brain. The tight and regimented form of the structures, signifying how the medication has stabilised the Epilepsy.
